Fred Freitas Hemmings and his canoemates Lydia and Gordon bid the N.R.P. Sagres "boa viagem" as it sails away from Honolulu during its 2010 visit.

NRP Sargres Visit

The Portuguese Navy ship N.R.P. Sagres is carrying out a circumnavigation of the globe in 2020, as part of the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan's voyage around the world. The ship’s mission during its 371 day trip is to train its first and second-year Naval Academy cadets and conduct port calls and economic diplomacy activities.

After visiting the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Sagres will cross the North Pacific, eventually arriving in Honolulu on August 22, 2020. It will remain in Honolulu Harbor through August 27, 2020, when it will depart for Papeete, Tahiti.

The Portuguese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii is pleased to be planning cultural activities and celebrations surrounding the NRP Sagres' visit to Honolulu. More information will be available later in 2020.
